We’re done. Windows Vista is now RTM’d (released to manufacturer).

Windows Vista

Today we released Windows Vista to manufacturing. It’s out of our hands now. The Microsoft Office team also RTM’d Office 2007 on Monday. Both will be available to consumers on January 30.

Time to celebrate!

Congrats on the release. I have the BETA version, though I think you really need the DUO-CORE to run it succesfully. Everything else crashes. I really like the innerface and graphics. My wifes laptop was able to run it for a week before it failed.

Do you really work at\for MS? I would really like your help, I rescue computers and give them away to those without. It’s a hobby, I’m disabled from a work accident and just started SSD. Does MS consider helping someone like me in my endeavor? Do you consider it? I am a “not for profit” indvidual trying to promote computers to people who do not have one or cannot afford one.

I’m guessing you guys all have laptops, instead of throwing them away, is it possible to wipe them clean and ship them to me?

    James,

Thanks for comments. Vista has improved tremendously since Beta 1 and Beta 2, I think once you get a chance to use the released version you’ll be much happier with it. The Core Duo processors from Intel are quite nice — very fast — but even hardware from a year or two ago will be more than adequate to handle Vista and won’t crash on it. I’ve been running Vista steadily on AMD Athlon X2 processors since pre-Beta1 without any significant problems.

We have an internal PC recycling program, but if you wanted to write all your pertinent information about your business down and email it to me at njansma [at] microsoft.com I will try to find the right people who may be able to help.

Let me know of your impressions once you use the final version!
